Muvment is Autogirl's car rental marketplace, and it is really three products sharing one engine. Renters book a car with a driver by the hour, day or month. Car owners sign up on the host platform and earn from a car that would otherwise sit idle. Drivers apply to drive those cars and get paid per trip.
Autogirl started in 2019 and became Muvment. The rental side is the part the public sees, but a rental marketplace only works if cars keep arriving and someone is available to drive them. So the host platform and the driver application are not add-ons, they are the supply side of the business. Tens of thousands of rentals so far, and now expanding beyond Nigeria.
What made this hard.
Three audiences, three completely different jobs to do. A renter wants a car this Friday. A car owner wants to know what they will earn. A driver wants to know if they qualify and when they get paid. One website cannot ask all three the same questions.
Marketplaces like this fail on trust before they fail on supply. Owners need to believe their car is safe. Renters need to believe the car exists and is roadworthy. Drivers need to believe the money arrives.
Availability is genuinely hard: overlapping bookings, gaps between trips, which driver is assigned, and multi-day journeys between cities all land in one calendar.
Money has to move correctly and visibly. Owners want to see what they have earned and what is still owed as it happens, not in a statement at the end of the month.
How we approached it.
A separate front door for each group
Renters get muvment.ng, built around one question: what car, where, and for how long. Car owners get their own host platform, built around a different one: what will I earn, and when do I get paid. Drivers get an application flow that tells them what is needed before they start filling anything in. Same engine underneath, three different conversations.
Owner sign-up that answers the money question first
The host platform leads with an earnings calculator, not a form. An owner can work out what their specific car would make before handing over a single document. Only then does it ask for the car, the papers and the bank details, and once they are in, a dashboard shows live bookings, what they have earned and what is still to be paid.
A driver application built around what disqualifies you
The driver flow puts the licence, the experience and the checks up front, so someone finds out in the first minute whether it is worth continuing. Applications land in an internal queue for review rather than an inbox, and drivers who pass become assignable to bookings straight away.
One availability engine, three ways in
Bookings are modelled as time intervals with buffers, blackout windows and driver assignment, so a car listed by an owner, booked by a renter and driven by a driver stays on one truthful calendar rather than being sold twice.
Trust built into the data, not bolted on
Car checks, uploaded documents, owner profiles, driver licences and inspection results are proper parts of the system, not admin screens. Every listing carries a history that both sides can read.
Built to cross borders
Cities, currencies, pricing rules and vehicle classes are settings rather than code, so opening a new market is an operations job rather than an engineering project.
What changed as a result.
